Effects of NBI-induced energetic ions on internal kink stability in HL-2M

A systematic investigation is carried out, studying the effect of neutral beam injection induced energetic particles (EPs) on n = 1 (n toroidal mode number) internal kink (IK) instability in HL-2M tokamak, utilizing MARS-F/K code [Liu et al., Phys. Plasmas 7, 3681 (2000) and 15, 112503 (2008)]. high-beta sawteething scenario, simulated by TRANSP [Breslau al. Computer Software (2018)], chosen for this study. Compared to fluid model, non-perturbative magnetohydrodynamic (MHD)-kinetic hybrid computations with MARS-K show a generally stabilization IK, due drift kinetic resonances associated EPs. The bounce resonance trapped EPs has minor influence stability. In absence plasma equilibrium flow assumed particle pitch distribution, transit co-current (countercurrent) passing destabilizes (stabilizes) IK. With flow, both co- countercurrent tend stabilize mode, but stronger particles. These modeling results provide useful guidance interpreting MHD instabilities future high-performance experiments HL-2M.
